The Perseid meteor shower happens every year in August, one of the most dramatic. I took my DSLR camera and a change of clothes and went to Iga, Japan to photograph it. The skies are darker there than Osaka, and I ended up at Iga-Ueno Castle, which turned out to be right next to my hotel.
BGs had been ok today: 164 when I woke up, and then 180 before lunch later. As I arrived in Iga and found my hotel, I was perfect: 106. And it lasted; before dinner, after scoping out the castle for tonight’s photography, I was still in the perfect range, 94.
This was my first real traveling since the COVID-19 situation began. I wore masks the entire time and was careful. Luckily, not too many people were on the trains or in Iga when I was there, and I had the place to myself.
After my convenience store dinner in my room, diabetes seemed ok – it was 162. So I went out to try some photos and hope for some shooting stars.
The cicadas were extremely noisy but they quieted down around 9 pm. And the clouds came and went, and I saw some meteors with the naked eye, but catching them on the camera proved more difficult.
I enjoyed the evening though. I let the camera take a series of photos as I listened to The Beatles with my earbuds until about midnight. I had gone up a bit by around 11 pm, to about 248. Convenience store food can be tough.
This vlog captures the trip to Iga on trains, and my attempts at catching shooting stars with my camera at a very lovely Japanese location.
